Wu's Presidency

While Wu does fill Thurston’s role of president after nationalist pressures to have a non-foreign-born Chinese person lead Ginling College, it is crucial to note that she is also still a product of Ginling under American missionary and president emeritus Thurston. We are able to see Wu’s navigation and negotiation of her Chinese Christian identity. The documents, including letters & correspondence about the college and also biographies written about Wu, show us how President Wu Yi-Fang uses her platform at Ginling to redefine what Christian missionary work and education looks like abroad.
