After graduating from Ginling, Liu went to America with husband (Xu Shuxi) and their child, then lived in Beijing in the Yenching Compound of the Yenching Academy at Peking University. She had another son in 1925. In 1956, her husband became ambassador to Peru, so their family moved to Lima.
