Liu lived in Beijing after leaving Ginling. She went to get her M.S. in History of Education (1924) and another M.S. in Household Economic Science (1925) at Teachers College of Columbia University. She helped in the mass education movement in Ding Xian (Ting Hsien), and was invited by Jane Addams to the "International Women's League of Peace and Freedom" conference in Washington D.C.
