Tang was from Hangzhao (Hangchow), Zhejiang (Chekiang). Post-Ginling, she received a Masters in Religion from Boston University in 1925. After that, she taught at Mary Farnham School in Shanghai, and then became Principal of Ridgeway School at Changshu (1929). Later, she lived in Anhui (Anhwei) and taught at St. Agnes School in Anqing (Anking) in the 1930s.
