Religion, Reform, and Revolutions at a Women's College in Republican China
The View from Ginling is an ongoing undergraduate student project to digitize the Papers of Matilda Calder Thurston (1875-1958) and to examine the larger history of Ginling College, a Protestant women’s college in Nanjing, China, where Thurston worked as the founding president. From its establishment in 1915 to its merger with Nanjing University in 1951, Ginling's community experienced much of the upheaval of twentieth-century China and the surrounding world.
On the site, you can browse the collection, explore Ginling's history and our methodology, and visit the exhibits below to learn more about how the students, faculty, and staff at Ginling viewed their world.
